Creative Camp

CREATING TOGETHER DURING COVID-19

Teen Haven Summer Campy is widely known by the youth in Lancaster as THE place to be during the hot summer months. However, the challenges that the coronavirus pandemic brought to all organizations called Teen Haven to get creative. They hosted a three-week Creative Camp for a group of socially distanced, masked youth from Lancaster, PA. I was hired as a Teaching Artist for one of the weeks. We created three projects all centered around an exploration of Psalm 52 which included a “New-Heart” Mosaic, a mixed-media self portrait, and a mixed-media collage. The participants worked with watercolor, ink, markers, pastels, paint, tiles, grouting, mod podge, and various collage materials. Their work was a stunning representation of their uniqueness and ability to take creative risks. Teen Haven hosted a gallery “walk-through” for all parents to see their child’s work from all three weeks of camp. The youth had much to be proud of!
